How a Hawkbill Blade Cuts

A hawkbill blade curves downward like a bird's beak, with the sharpened edge on the inside of the curve. Instead of pushing or slicing, you hook the material and draw the knife toward you in a pulling cut. The curve keeps rope, twine, cord, cardboard and strapping trapped against the edge, so the knife cannot slip off the work.
